Blades Massage and Wellness is pleased to Announce!

Rod_Silla_02_128x128OUR 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY!

Come celebrate with us

Saturday, December 8, 2012, 8am-12pm!

We will be celebrating our 10 year anniversary on Saturday, December 8th. It has been our joy to serve as your healthy lifestyle and wellness resource. We know we have been able to help so many of you and we want to thank you for trust and your loyality. Please join us for an open house from 8am-12pm on Saturday, December 8, 2012.

As a way to give back to the community,  we will be sponsoring a blood drive, in cooperation with LifeServe Blood Center. Blood donation matters everyday for cancer patients undergoing treatment, for accident and trauma patients and for individuals being treated for various blood disorders. LifeServe Blood Center needs to collect over 1,800 units of blood a week through mobile blood drives, at businesses like ours to meet the needs of local hospital patients.

This holiday season, make a difference by giving the gift of life! Donating blood takes about an hour and is a simple way to give an amazing gift to hospital patients in need. It is especially important to donate blood during this time of year, as poor weather conditions and busy holiday schedules can often lead to a decrease in the number of blood donations which could lead to a potential blood shortage.

Schedule your appointment to save a life today! To view the date, time and location for this upcoming blood drive (Blades parking area), please click the make an appointment link at the end of this email or call LifeServe Blood Center at 800.287.4903.

(This location for donating is now closed. Please Contact LifeServe to look for other mobile blood drives. Thank you.)

As appreciation for your willingness to donate, we will give each donor a certificate for a free* 30 minute massage! You may use this at any time or give it as a gift (makes a GREAT stocking stuffer!!). (We will have refreshments to assist your body to recover after donating.)

We will also be collecting toys to give to families in need. Please bring a new toy(s) with you to the celebration on Saturday or donate on your next visit. If you are aware of a family that could use a little help this year,  please let us know and we will try to help as many as possible with toys that we collect. We will give all toy donors a coupon for $10 off* any massage.

In addition, all gift certificates will be discounted 10% off* if purchased on-site that day. Get your Christmas shopping done in one place!

As an expression of our gradtitude and our appreciation, we will have treats for all to enjoy!

As a BIG thank you to everyone for helping us with our success this past 10 years, we are taking $10 off* any massage during the month of December, so please ask at your December visit! We are looking forward to serving you for many years to come. (*Offers not valid with any other offer. Limit: one offer per client.)

Please come and join us for this fun event!

Des Moines Massage Therapist: Can Regular Massage Therapy Help With Pain Relief?

Several times a year, we will have clients walk into Blades Massage that are suffering from Chronic Pain. More and more, people are turning to massage therapy as a natural way to help bring relief to their chronic pain symptoms. In this video, we thought we would answer a few of the most common question we hear form people turning to massage to help manage their pain relief issues.

How Often Should A Person Get A Massage?
We are asked all the time by our clients, “how often should a person get a message?” The simple answer is, generally once a month is a great plan to provide regular relief. But if we're looking at a chronic pain condition, such as migraine headaches, neck pain, fibromyalgia or addressing a specific injury to the body, then we probably need to plan on more frequent massage therapy treatment and generally shorter sessions.

Why Am I Sore?

By Shirley Vanderbilt

body_massage_01You've just had a wonderful massage, and you go home feeling both relaxed and rejuvenated. But the next morning, you wake up with twinges of muscle soreness, maybe some fatigue, and you just don't feel yourself. What happened? Chances are it's the massage, and it's perfectly OK.

Keith Grant, head of the Sports and Deep Tissue Massage Department at McKinnon Institute in Oakland, Calif., says, "It's very much like doing a workout. If the muscles aren't used to it, they often respond with some soreness." Grant notes this should last for no more than a day or two. If it lasts longer, the massage may have been too intense, and the therapist should adjust for this in the next session. However, just as with exercise, when your body adjusts to having this type of workout, your physical response will also be less intense.

Water - Your Body's Best Friend

By Shirley Vanderbilt

Water_01Water is much more than just a thirst quencher — it’s your body’s best friend. Water gives vital fluid to the systems and organs that process nutrients, and then it helps take away all the unwanted refuse, such as bacteria and toxins.

When you go for a massage, the intake of water is doubly important. Massage puts the body into a trash-pickup mode by stimulating your cleansing system into action. After a massage, all that garbage has been collected and is just waiting to be tossed out. This is why your massage therapist encourages you to drink plenty of water after each session.

Back Pain: Often a Pain in the Gluteus Medius

By David Kent, LMT, NCTMB

kent_03Each week, I treat several clients who complain of "low back pain." For many patients, however, the primary cause of their pain is not the lower back but the gluteus medius muscle. No matter what kind of massage practice you have, a great deal of your success will depend on how quickly you are able to determine the origin of a patient's complaint and your ability to produce measurable results. This article will review some ways to identify when the gluteus medius muscle is responsible for causing pain.

Improve Your Health with Full Body Massage

By: Krishan Bakhur

relaxation_massage_01A massage is thought of being a relaxing way to sooth a tired and tense body after the trials of the day. When you feel in the need of a massage there are many different massage techniques that you can try. These massages also include the full body massage. These body massages can be done by masseuse, a friend, or even a loved one.

The main items that are needed is trust that the full body massage will help to relax the muscles. A comfortable floor mat, firm sofa, massage table or even a massage chair where the person can stay while they are getting the full body massage is needed. A selection of body lotions or essential oils to promote a sense of well being can also be used in the full body massage.
